(Cuyahoga Falls, OH) Wheaton & Sprague Engineering (WSE), a growing Structural Engineering firm located in Cuyahoga Falls, has recently been awarded their largest single contract in the firms 13-year history.
WSE is a structural engineering firm whose expertise encompasses the whole of the building project within its three divisions: Building Envelope Division, Building Structures Division and Building Forensics Division.
The project, 150 Amsterdam will be an approximately 355,000 square foot high rise residential tower in New York City, located between West 67th and West 68th Streets. The owner of the project is ASR Kalimian Realty out of New York. The architect of record for the project is the award-winning firm of Gary Handel and Associates, with offices in New York as well. Wheaton & Sprague Engineering was awarded the project by Enclos Corporation, a leading designer and installer of exterior facades and curtainwall cladding systems, out of Minnesota.
WSE will work with Enclos on the system design of the 42-story, 163,000 square foot glass curtainwall, and provide shop drawings, fabrication drawings and structural engineering calculations for the curtainwall system.
A Curtainwall is a term used to describe a building façade which does not carry any dead load from the building, and is “hung” onto the building, transferring its dead and live loads to the main structure. These loads are transferred through connections at floors or columns of the building. A curtainwall is designed to resist air and water infiltration, wind forces acting on the building, seismic forces, and its own dead load forces. Curtainwalls are typically designed with extruded aluminum members. The aluminum frame is typically infilled with glass, which provides an architecturally pleasing building, as well as benefits such as daylighting.
Wheaton & Sprague is presently a 20-person full-service professional engineering firm, who will be seeking new drafting and engineering talent as a result of this and other larger contracts received for 2008. The firm has already signed a lease for a larger new building in Stow with a planned move for January 2008.
Building designer Handel Architects is a full-service design firm with over 100 architects, interior designers, and LEED-accredited professionals in New York and San Francisco. They are recognized leaders in mixed-use residential design with over twelve million square feet of new and renovated space built.
