The design, consulting and engineering firm of Wheaton Sprague Building Envelope is pleased to announce that Charles V. Shepard, P.E., LEED AP BD+C, a Senior Engineer with Wheaton Sprague, has obtained his Professional Engineering license in the state of Florida.
Prior to Mr. Shepard receiving this license, John L. Wheaton, P.E. LEED AP BD+C and President of Wheaton Sprague, was the firm's sole professional engineer registered in the state of Florida. According to Mr. Wheaton: "Having Chuck obtain his Florida P.E. is another strategic step toward Wheaton Sprague having multiple licenses in each state; affording WS more velocity, more capability, and more options for our firm and for our clients."
As with many other coastal states, Florida's building code is dictated by the prevalence of hurricanes and flood hazards, which can significantly impact the design of a building envelope. There are many issues to consider when designing a building in Florida, such as county code compliances based on high velocity hurricane zones, the requirement to include impact protection or impact resistant products in the borne debris region, and municipalities requiring compliance above and beyond Florida building code. Adding to the intricacies of the Florida P.E., is the requirement of said license for offshore work.
