The Michael W. Krzyzewski Center
for Athletic Excellence at Duke
University in Durham, North Carolina,
is an 8-story multi-use building, the dream of Duke basketball coach Mike
Krzyzewski. It is a 56,000 square foot facility designed by The Beck Group of Atlanta, Georgia.
The building was designed with year-round basketball training in mind, with two
full-sized basketball courts, a 50-seat theater for viewing videotape, as well
as significant office and storage space. Team dining area, weight room and
video work room was also included in the design. The total project cost was $15
million. Mark Coulis was the Senior Consultant responsible for the problem
assessment of air and water infiltration through the exterior cladding of the
existing building, as well as the design development, the construction documentation
and the construction administration for an exterior re-cladding of the
facade.
