Curtain Wall Engineering Expert Implements BIM

STOW, OH: In accordance with the 2009 Strategic Plan of the firm, and an effort to stay on the forefront of the glass and glazing industry, Wheaton Sprague (WS) has made the software and necessary training investment into AutoCad 3D and Revit Architecture software to our practice.

AutoCad 3D: AutoCAD is a software program manufactured by Autodesk, the world leader in design software to the architectural and engineering community. Utilization of the 3D tools in AutoCAD allows Architectural and Engineering firms to add depth and perspective to two dimensional ideas, enabling them to visualize, analyze and experience ideas before they become real.  Implementation of 3D tools will allow the firm to more completely visualize and follow seal lines, accurately determine proper joinery for complex intersections, visualize aesthetic problems before assembly of parts, and provide early detection of interference problems to their clients.

Revit by Autodesk, is software used for building information modeling (BIM) which, according to Will Ikerd, writer for Glass Magazine, “the BIM process will fundamentally change the glass and curtain wall industry before 2015.” This building information modeling (BIM) software facilitates a new way of working collaboratively between the architect, engineer and individual trades to create a model with consistent, reliable design information – enabling faster decision-making and coordination, better documentation, and the ability to evaluate sustainable building and infrastructure design alternatives using analysis to predict performance before breaking ground.

President John L. Wheaton, P.E., LEED AP says “our implementation of both of these strategic practices is a statement of our commitment to our building envelope expertise, and our desire to further our expertise for the benefit of our clients. We believe that execution of both of these services will continue to improve our position us as a full-service building envelope firm, and will benefit both our Building Envelope Consulting and our Building Envelope Engineering clientele.”
