The Kucko-Anthony - Kertesz Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio was a 1-story, 12,900 square foot new building, utilizing face brick on 2x6 wood studs and wood roof trusses.
This building site was located in an area of fill material with seams of organic peat. Wheaton Sprague Engienering designed the foundations to be supported on augered-cast-in-place piles that extended up to 65 feet below grade. The piles supported grade beams, which in turn supported the building walls and the building floor slab. If the soil beneath the slab would settle, the floor slab is designed to span across these voids.
