Wheaton Sprague was hired by The Brewer-Garret Company, approved commissioning agent for the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission, to provide technical consultation services, for the exterior facades of a new two (2) story building for the Cleveland Municipal Schools District in Cleveland, Ohio. Wheaton & Sprague Engineering specifically include three (3) Facade Types depicted from the architect, Metropolitan Architecture Studio.
1. Glazed Aluminum Curtain Wall and Windows with sunscreens and light shelves.
2. Brick Veneer wall system.
3. Architectural Precast Concrete panels.
Wheaton Sprague provided constructability review on all architect drawings, details and technical specifications relative to the above listed systems, and provided recommendations to assist in the production of an integral envelope package suitable for bidding and construction purposes.
Wheaton Sprague is also scheduled for review of contractor bid proposals, shop drawings, calculations and other project submittals, providing attendance at meetings at job site, assisting in the bidding and award process for the envelope contract(s), performing periodic job-site observations; reviewing contractor quality control procedures and making appropriate recommendations to the Project Team.
The school is being designed as a LEED silver guilding and includes sustainable design strategies such as large areas of glass to maximize the natural daylighting, sun screens to reduce summer heat gain, light shelves to improve daylighting quality and manage heat gain, and the use of local materials to reduce transportation costs. Metropolitan Architecture Studio, working with the Cleveland Educational Design Alliance team designed an urgan park to front the school and to make a seamless connection tot eh densely populated residential neighborhood.
